Being a zookeeper seems like a dream job– you get to spend every day working with amazing animals and helping take care of them. But in addition to making sure that zoo animals are kept healthy, lots of scientists working at zoos do crucial work to help protect those animals in the wild. The Indianapolis Zoo’s website highlights a few of these conservation heroes, like Dr. Dee Boersma, who has spent thirty years 30 years protecting Magellanic penguins from oil spills, habitat loss, and road construction planned through nesting sites, and Dr. Amanda Vincent, who started the first seahorse conservation project and has led to the creation of 35 protected zones for these fish. If you could be a conservation hero, what kind of animal would you work on saving?
